Stuart Rubin is an expert real estate developer. In the United States, public housing, often referred to as a housing project, has a complicated history. In the early decades of the project, the complex was operated by a state or local housing authority authorized and funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Most real estate projects take at least two years to complete, but affordable housing often takes longer for several reasons. Several aFUSE Fellows are dedicated to helping cities find creative ways to finance affordable housing.

Social services for residents include afternoon programs offered by the University of Central Florida, the Florida Department of Health and Human Services, and other nonprofit organizations that run a variety of programs for children and families in the community.
